J.J. Newberry's opened in North Adams in 1926, and closed in 1993. It consisted
of a three-story building fronting Main St, built in 1867, and a long attached building behind which was used primarily for
storage. In 2001, the owner of the vacant building demolished the attached building behind, and renovated the main building,
after which it was opened as Moulton's General Store in 2003. The original J.J. Newberry's sign, missing letters and all,
was taken down, and the letters were mounted on a wall in Moulton's, and the new store sign copied the Newberry's style. The
following two pages of photos were taken during the demolition and renovation period. |
